"The History of Boylston 1642-1741" A Critical Edition of the Papers of George L. Wright by William O. Dupuis Volume II in the Boylston Historical Series Revised edition 1978 Chapter 3 "The Mother Town of Lancaster" by George L. Wright While it appears that this instrument bears the date A.D.1701, it also appears that the purchase was not completed until several years afterwards. It is found upon the records of Lancaster that the next town action relating to the matter was at a town meeting held February 11, 1711, where by vote, the inhabitants secured the right to join in the purchase by subscribing to this agreement. Know all men by these presents that we, ye subscribers, being desirous to join in ye purchasing of a tract of land which lyeth on the west side of the township of Lancaster, which land have been formerly petitioned for to the General Court and which the inhabitants of said Lancaster are still in pursuance of and their petition is still with your said Court for granting ye same and consideration of money hath already been paid to George Tahanto and other Indians toward the purchase of said land though not as yet consummated, we the subscribers do hereby bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and ministers firmly by these presents each other, their equal share of the purchase of said land and of all charges that have or shall be necessarily expended about the same and to run equal hazard of obtaining ye said land provided that if the land be obtained, we shall have each one an equal share of it and the whole of the money to be paid unto such person of the town as shall be appointed by them to receive the same at or before the fifth day of March next and shall subscribe hereto or before the 15th day of February current or else lay no claim to the said land. Dated February 15, 1711. Some of ye persons subscribed ye same day and others had their names entered afterwards. The total number being 98 that were the purchasers of said land. It was nearly three years afterwards that the survey of the land was made and the confirmation given by the General Court. On May 27, 1713, the following report was made to the General Court by the Committee to survey and report upon the land: In question: The Report of the Committee upon the Survey of Land Prayed for by Lancaster...November 21-22, 1711. Whereas, we the subscribers, viz. Jonathan Prescott, John Farnsworth and Samuel Jones are a committee appointed to view a tract of land petitioned for by the inhabitants of Lancaster and make report to the General Court for their consideration: We have accordingly been upon the spot the day above dated and proceeded thereupon as follows: In Primis, we begun at the proper bounds of the Lancaster Plantation and there ran a line upon a northwest point or thereabouts, along by the southwest side of Masapaug or Unkachewa1unck Ponds extending said line three miles: from thence we made an angle running near upon a southwest point crossing a river called North River and so running over hills called Monnosock Hills, said line being about six miles in length till it meets with the middle branch of the Lancaster River at or near a little hill on which the Indians had marked a tree for a corner of said land being near five miles wide at the southward and bounded partly by Capt. Davenport's farm to the southwest corner of Lancaster old bounds. The land included within these bounds is rocky and mountainous and poorly accommodated with meadow. Signed: Jonathan Prescott, John Farnsworth, Samuel Jones Read and ordered that the tract of land above described be added and confirmed to the township of Lancaster as part of the township not prejudicing any former grants. March 21, 1711 A small portion of this land came within the present bounds of Boylston upon the incorporation of that town in 1786. They planned to stay at the very same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years ago. Because both had jobs they found it difficult coordinating their travel schedules. It was decided that the husband would fly to Florida on a Thursday and his wife would follow him the next day. Upon arriving as planned, the husband checked into the hotel. In his room there was a computer so he decided to send his wife an e- mail back in Minneapolis. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her address, and sent the e-mail, without realizing his error. In Houston, a widow had just returned from her husband's funeral. The dearly departed was a minister of many years who had been called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow checked her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. Upon reading the first message, she fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife. Subject: I've Arrived. I know you are surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send e- mails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. P.S.
