Welcome to our email newsletter! For those of you who are not
members of BHS and don't receive the snailmail newsletter, it is called
The Potpourri. Sooooo, we thought the appropriate name for this version
would be PotpourrEMAIL. This email version is not meant to repeat or
copy the snailmail version, but to complement it, with the addition of
topics of interest to those with computer and web capabilities. If you
have a story to tell, information to impart, a good genealogy joke, computer
or web genealogy info, a Boylston genealogy query, or anything that would
be of interest to our readers--please email us at:

What's In a Name??
"Names of Places" by G.L. Wright
Volume I in the Historical Series
The Six Nations
The Indians were accustomed to assemble frequently in the spring
of the year for a grand pow-wow on the western slope of Ball Hill to
which they came from all directions, and from various tribes. This
may have been the reason that the northeast section of Boylston
received the name of "The Six Nations," referring to the different
tribes represented at these gatherings and pow-wows, and not to
the different nationalities of its early settlers. It also seems likely
that at some early period of history, there was an Indian settlement
or village in that section, or around the northern shores of Rocky Pond.

Tidbits
from the BHS scrapbooks -
Aug 20, 1943
The congregation Sunday morining in the Center Church, heard the
new junior choir with Miss Esther D. Boyden, director and Ralph
Minot Warren of Worcester, organist, in a rendition of the anthem
"Take My Life and Let It Be" by Joh B. Dykes and as the response
to the prayer, "The Smallest Children Know."
The pastor, Rev. John E. Morgan, thanked the group for singing the
words so clearly and said he hoped it would be heard again. Members
of the choir were Mary Kimball, Ruth B. Garfield, Miriam A. Earle,
Carol J. French, David M. and William N. Jennson, Winifred I. and
Majorie J. Fuller and Gary S. Garfield.

Humor
from BHS member Pat Healy - pjhealy@charter.net
Five Englishmen in an Audi Quattro arrived at the Italian border.
The Italian Customs agent stops them and tells them. "It's illegal to
put 5 people in a Quattro. "
"What do you mean it's illegal? " asked the Englishmen.
" Quattro means four " replies the Italian official.
" Quattro is just the name of the automobile, " the Englishmen retorts
with disbelief.
" Look at the papers: this car is designed to carry 5 persons."
" You can't pull that one on me, " replies the Italian customs agent.
"Quattro means four. You have five people in your car and you are
therefore breaking the law ".
The Englishmen reply angrily, " You idiot! Call your supervisor over - I
want to speak to someone with more intelligence! "
" Sorry, " responds the Italian official, " he can't come. He's busy
with 2 guys in a Fiat Uno. "
